Bloom of the Day

Rosa foetida bicolor (Austrian Copper)

This is "Species" or "Wild" rose. Despite the name it does not come from Austria but from the Middle East, an old Turkish variety, recorded in the 12th century. It acquired its name when Flemish botanist Charles de l'Ecluse introduced it to Holland, brought first to Vienna from Constantinople. Established 1596
