The concept of "having a garden with roses" as opposed to "having a rose garden" comes down to good old fashion competition. Old Garden Roses such as "Granny Grimmetts" have a diversity of form that lend them very well to a garden. Where as modern roses are bred for showy flowers and do not show much tolerance to companion plantings. Here in BeaulieLand, a mix of Old Garden roses and Modern Roses side by side blooming til their hearts content would have some growers consider it to be Rose Anarchy! I think its just heaven!!!
