Bloom of the Day
One would expect a gold medal to be larger than a gold badge, and indeed among roses this is so, although the double flowers of 'Gold Medal' are not exceptionally large. Hence, perhaps, its American classification as a 'Grandiflora'.

Bloom of the Day
Southern Belle
When beechen buds begin to swell,
And woods the blue-birds’ warble know,
The yellow rose’s modest bell
Peeps from the last year’s leaves below.
Ere russet fields their green resume,
Sweet flower! I love, in forest bare,
To meet thee, when they faint perfume
Alone is in the virgin air.
Of all her train, the hands of Spring
First plant thee in the watery mold;
And I have seen thee blossoming
Beside the snow-bank’s edges cold.
Anon.

Bloom of the Day

Tournament of Roses
This free-flowering Grandiflora is an excellent addition to just about any landscape. The color ranges from coral pink to salmon, usually with deeper-colored centers and petal backs. There is little to no fragrance.
